Supporting Journalists, South Sudan
Supporting Journalists, South Sudan
Project Objectives
Input to the development of a 5-year strategic plan for the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), an industry organisation struggling with funding and administrative issues.
Project Outputs
Integrity conducted interviews with journalists and editors in the capital, Juba, as well as key regional towns such as Torit, Wau and Malakal, to assess existing capabilities, key challenges, and journalist expectations of the Union. The research showed that the majority of journalists and editors lacked even basic training, and frequently suffered from threats and harassment from the government and security forces. Lack of transport and equipment were also discovered to be serious problems. Following discussion with both the client and key stakeholders from the UJOSS, our findings were used to inform their strategic planning.
