Project Objectives

Identify the political and economic dynamics and incentives of key bamboo-sector stakeholders to guide an upcoming BIF intervention supporting further inclusive growth of the market.

Project Outputs

Based on extensive in-country research across Yangon Division, Bago Division, Mandalay Division and Shan State, Integrity investigated the dynamics and incentives of the government, institutions, companies, associations and other market players which may influence the emergence of the bamboo market. Through this we identified the main “winners” and “losers”, and highlight how the interests and incentives of key stakeholders can be combined to create opportunities – with a specific focus on inclusion of the very poorest. Our work was designed to be a crucial part of a broader ‘competitiveness study’, which would inform BIF’s design work going forward.
