Integrity was commissioned by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to carry out an independent water sector study in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in North and South Kivu, two provinces on the Eastern border of the country with Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda.

A small team of Congolese researchers undertook primary data collection in the form of key informant interviews and focus group discussions, speaking to more than one hundred stakeholders over two weeks in and around the cities of Goma and Bukavu and in the capital Kinshasa. Data collection was used to inform the assessment of the water sector in the Kivus in relation to donor programming and feasibility. Findings and recommendations were shared with relevant stakeholders, including implementing partners operating in the region. These were delivered through a final report and a follow-up findings dissemination workshop where stakeholders and implementing partners had an opportunity to field questions to the Integrity research team and discuss any key findings.
