Artraker Awards 2014
On 17th September, Integrity is joining co-founding partners INCAS Consulting and International Alert at the second annual 2014 Artraker Awards. The Awards have been created to help shape and inspire how people and organisations understand, engage and respond to conflicts through the medium of visual arts. This year, the Artraker Awards programme has expanded to include three awards and a travelling exhibition of the shortlisted candidates’ work to London, Colombo, Paris and Kabul.
Following the success of the inaugural Artraker Award in 2013, this year’s competition has attracted 250 entries from 75 countries. The works of the 12 shortlisted candidates cover topics such as oral histories of people killed in the Syrian conflict and buried in gardens across Syria, displays of public art produced by a female artist in the streets of Kabul and collages made from the rubbish of the prison in which one Burmese artist was held as a political prisoner for 36 years.
This year’s candidates are eligible to win one of three awards:
The Artraker Award for impactful conflict art that displays originality, impact, exceptionality and engagement
The Artraker Award for Social Impact for artwork that makes a real difference in conflict or violence-affected communities, generating local change and lasting impact.
The Artraker Award for Innovation in Narrative for novel art projects that reveal a different understanding or perspective on conflict, violence, and peace.
In this second year, the Artraker exhibition of the shortlisted candidates’ work will travel from London to Colombo, Kabul and Paris as part of Artraker’s Art of Peace Travelling Exhibition, curated by Nikki Marquardt. Find out more about the travelling exhibition.
