Veteran Somali Journalists Views On Somali Media
The Xog-Sugan UK Diaspora Media Consultation project, run by Integrity throughout October and November 2013, consulted Somali diaspora media actors in the UK on the proposed Draft Media Law in Somalia. Part of the project involved videoing three veteran Somali journalists about their perceptions of how the media landscape had changed during their professional life (pre and post-conflict), their personal practices to establish and maintain ethics and professional standards and their views about what they wanted to see change in the Somali media.
The three journalists who participated are:
- Sheikh Mohamoud Dalmar
- Mohamed Aden Tarra
- Amina Wehelie
These interviews were edited into the below four-minute clip and shared at the project’s final presentation. By providing strong role models and promoting a positive image and leadership from the diaspora media community, it is hoped that this video can help to play a part in catalysing continuing debate on the Somali media environment.
